Special features for 2012

Hybrids and off-roading rarely are available in the same package, so the segment is not very broad. The Volkswagen Touareg hybrid provides a way to reduce one's environmental footprint and still enjoy off-road capability for $8,000 cheaper than a Porsche Cayenne. The TDI Touareg is no slouch for fuel economy-- it is capable of 28 mpg on the highway and makes over 400 lb-feet of torque and features the same off-road capability and 7700 lbs of towing ability for less than $47,000.
Fresh off of last years redesign, the 2012 Volkswagen Touareg is a mid-size SUV available with three different engines; 3.6-liter V6 (280 hp/265 lb-ft of torque), 3.0-liter V6 TDI® Clean Diesel engine (225 hp/406 lb-ft of torque) and a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 hybrid engine (380 hp/425 lb-ft of torque). All engines are paired with the same 8-speed automatic transmission and 4MOTION® permanent AWD system. Fuel consumption falls within an EPA estimated range of 16 mpg city to 28 mpg highway, depending on engine selection. Features include 19-inch alloy wheels, navigation system, bi-xenon HID headlights, rearview camera, dual-zone electronic climate control, heated front seats and heated rear seats. Safety is comprised of a special reinforced safety cage, tire pressure monitoring system, electric parking brake, electronic stability control, intelligent crash response system, anti-lock braking, anti-slip regulation, electronic brake-pressure distribution, hill descent assist, and electronic stability control. The Touareg is backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty.
