A compact variant of the Prius, the 2012 Toyota Prius c (the c stands for city) is a hybrid hatchback powered by a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine (73 hp/82 lb.-ft of torque) and a permanent magnet AC synchronous motor (60 hp/125 lb.-ft of torque). An electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (ECVT) paired with FWD enables the Prius c is achieve an EPA estimated 53 mpg city and 46 mpg highway, for a combined 50 mpg.
