Powerplant selection for the 2012 GMC 2500HD consists of either a gasoline or diesel fueled engine. Standard on the pickup truck is the Vortec 6-liter V-8 generating 360 horsepower and 380 foot-pounds of torque. The optional engine is the 6.6 liter Duramax turbo-diesel V-8 which is design to move rear or all four wheels with 765 pounds-foot of torque. Towing ability with the 2012 GMC Sierra 2500HD sees up to 14,700 pounds available using the 6-liter V-8 engine and as much as 17,500 pounds of trailer pulling ability with the Duramax turbo-diesel engine.
