A completely new sports coupe for 2011, the Honda CR-Z borrows exterior design inspiration from the 1980s Honda CR-X in pitching the hybrid gasoline/electric drive system. Collectively known as Integrated Motor Assist, the 2011 CR-Z gasoline powerplant is a 1.5 liter i-VTEC inline-4 paired with a 10-kilowatt electric motor. Producing a total 122 horsepower together, the 2011 Honda Insight power generation is channeled through either a continuously variable transmission (CVT) or a 6-speed manual gearbox. With 37 miles per gallon through average city and highway driving obtainable when the 2011 CR-Z is fitted with the CVT, the more performance-oriented 6-speed transmission will achieve about 34 miles per gallon in combined travel. Electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes with brake assist and the safety of Honda's ACE (Advanced Compatibility Engineering) body structure is all in place as standard collision avoidance/prevention equipment on the 2011 Honda CR-Z.
