While the manual transmission and FWD T5 are no longer available, the 2009 Volvo V50 2.4i is now equipped with Bluetooth, satellite radio, power driver seat, moonroof and fog lights, and the T5 AWD gets the R-Design package, sport suspension, aluminum roof rails, heated front seats and auto-dimming rearview mirror. The V50 2.4i is powered by a 2.4L inline-5 engine that pushes out 168 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque. The Volvo T5 AWD R-Design boasts a turbocharged 2.5L inline-5 engine that generates 227 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed automatic transmission is mandatory across the model. EPA fuel-economy estimates stand at 20 mpg city/28 mpg hwy and 23 mpg combined for the V50 2.4i, while the T5 R-Design AWD yields 18/26/21 mpg. Standard safety features include traction and stability control, antilock disc brakes, front-seat side airbags, full-length head curtain airbags and whiplash-reducing head restraints. As a compact sport wagon, the V50 has nearly as much space as a compact SUV and accommodates five passengers.
