The 2009 Saturn VUE Hybrid gets a dual-mode hybrid system added to the lineup that employs a 3.6L V6 engine generating 255 hp and 252 lb-ft of torque with front-wheel drive and an automatic transmission featuring EVT electronic ratio select. The milder hybrid 2.4L inline-4 engine is still available, providing 172 hp and 167 lb-ft of torque paired to a four-speed automatic transmission. Saturn VUE Hybrid engine specifications feature an electric motor that provides power assistance during acceleration, restarts the gas engine after it automatically shuts off at a stop and recharges itself using a process called regenerative braking, which captures energy normally lost while stopping. EPA fuel economy estimates are 25 mpg city and 32 mpg hwy, which are each 6 mpg better than the conventional four-cylinder VUE XE with front-wheel drive and more fuel-efficient than most other SUVs. Standard safety features include the following air bags: dual-stage frontal and side-impact, driver and right-front passenger and head curtain side-impact, front and rear outboard seating positions.Read more Read less
Following a complete redesign last year, the 2009 Saturn Vue carries over with only a few changes. Most notable is the introduction a new hybrid engine in the Vue Hybrid. The 262-hp system was developed as a joint project with Chrysler and BMW and combines a 3.6-liter variable-valve timing direct-injection V6 with the two-mode hybrid system. This allows the small SUV can run solely on engine power, on battery power, or on a combination of the two. Also new to the Vue lineup are Bluetooth handsfree connectivity and a remote starting system on the hybrid. The AM/FM CD stereo with MP3 player and DVD-based navigation is no longer available on XE models, and a few exterior colors have changed.
Sharp styling; smooth ride; hybrid fuel economy; extensive cargo space; standard safety equipment; towing stability feature
The base 2009 Saturn Vue XE represents a particularly strong value with its wide range of standard features and economical engine. The four-cylinder variant offers an EPA fuel economy rating of 25 mpg city and 32 mpg highway, while the new two-mode V6 rates achieves 28 mpg in the city and 31 mpg highway, making it the most fuel-efficient V6 SUV in the world. The Vue has a smooth, controlled ride and car-like handling, matched with an especially roomy interior and good towing ability for its size.
