With only minor changes after last year's lineup expansion, the 2009 Nissan Pathfinder midsize SUV gets a few upgrades to its equipment packages, including auto speed-sensing locks and Bluetooth accessories. The two engine choices for the Nissan Pathfinder are a 4.0L V6 engine that pushes out 266 hp and 288 lb-ft of torque, or a healthy 5.6L V8 engine churning out 310 hp and 380 lb-ft, with a five-speed automatic transmission standard on both. Towing capacity is 6,000 pounds for the V6 engine and 7,000 pounds for the V8 engine. The Pathfinder is equipped with either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive; however, 4WD is available on only the Pathfinder SE Off-Road and LE V8. EPA fuel economy ratings for the rear-wheel-drive V6 Pathfinders are estimated at 15 mpg city/22 mpg hwy and 17 mpg combined. The 4WD drops the EPA estimates down to 13/19/15 mpg, while the 4WD V8 Pathfinder gets 13/18/14 mpg. Standard safety equipment includes stability control, antilock disc brakes, side-impact airbags and side-curtain airbags. Passenger capacity is seven adults.
