Largely unchanged from last year, the four-door, four-passenger 2009 Lexus IS-F sedan gets new front and rear fascias, wheel designs, turn-signal side mirrors and paint colors, updated center console, gauge cluster and folding rear headrests. Powered by a 5.0L V8 engine charging 416 hp and 371 lb-ft of torque paired to an eight-speed automatic with a paddle-shift manual mode, the Lexus IS-F performance boasts 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds. EPA fuel economy ranges are 16 mpg city/23 mpg hwy and 18 mpg in combined driving. The IS-F comes equipped with wide array of safety features, including antilock brakes with brake assist, stability and traction control, front-seat side airbags, knee airbags and full-length side curtain airbags. As an option, a pre-collision system works with the adaptive radar cruise control to sense an impending impact and then automatically adjusts seatbelt tension and braking force. Interior sound insulation and ergonomically designed controls contribute to the IS-F driving experience.Read more Read less
The IS-F, which is a limited-edition, high-performance variant of the Lexus IS sedans returns for its second model year with no significant feature changes. There are however a few minor interior revisions for 2009, including a new instrument panel design and a new Piano Black finish on navigation-equipped vehicles. A two-tone Terra Cotta and black interior scheme is newly available.
Excellent engine; track-ready handling; performance; excellent seating; lengthy standard-features list
Although it looks quite similar to the IS 250 and IS 350 sedans on which it's based, save for a slightly more aggressive profile, the IS-F is an entirely different beast--race-ready for weekend jaunts on the track yet docile enough for daily driving. The IS-F's powertrain is a little smoother and better suited for everyday driving than that of the BMW M3. The IS-F's strong standard feature list makes it a very strong value.
