The 2009 Ram Truck Dakota is a mid-size pickup truck that is available in 2-door or 4-door crew cab trims. New for 2009 is the deletion of the SLT, Sport and TRX 4x2 trims. The new Big Horn/Lone Star trim replaces the SXT. Crate 'n Go storage is now a standard feature. A 4.7L V8 is now available on the Big Horn/Lone Star trim and the ST now has a tilt steering wheel as a standard feature. The base engine on the Ram Truck Dakota is a 3.7L V6 producing 215 hp and 235 lb-ft of torque. The standard transmission is a 4-speed automatic. The 2009 Ram Truck Dakota photos show that the style of the truck is modern and functional. Gas mileage on the V6 is 14 city and 18 hwy. Standard features include an AM/FM radio with a CD/MP3 player, advanced multistage front airbags, power mirrors, one-touch-down drivers window and a rear 40/40 folding split seat. The optional 4.7L V8 pushes out 302 hp and 329 lb-ft of torque, while also achieving better mileage with 22 mpg on the highway. The V8 on this 2009 Ram Truck Dakota is the only V8 option in the mid-size truck segment, and the Ram Truck Dakota features a lifetime powertrain limited warranty.

For 2009, Dodge's mid-size Dakota pickup sees a shake-up in its trim levels, eliminating the SLT and Sport editions and redistributing the options among the remaining ST, Big Horn, Laramie and TRX. Other changes include a dual-position tailgate for more cargo hauling options, increased body color and wheel options, new "Crate-N-Go" storage in the cab and E85 ethanol-blend flex-fuel capability in the available V8. There is also an increase in price seen mostly in the lower level trims.
