Significant for the 2009 Buick Lucerne luxury sedan is a new 3.9L V6 engine that replaces the old 3.8L engine on all trims except the V8-powered Super and offers more power along with E85 FlexFuel capability. According to Buick Lucerne specifications, the V6 engine pumps out 227 hp and 237 lb-ft of torque, except in California-emissions states, where the numbers drop to 219 hp and 234 lb-ft. The Super packs a 4.6L V8 engine generating 292 hp and 288 lb-ft, and both engines send power to the front wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. Other new features include Bluetooth connectivity, XM traffic reporting and new wheel designs. Lucerne's inviting interior seats five or six passengers. EPA-estimated fuel economy comes in at 17 mpg city/26 mpg hwy and 21 mpg in combined driving for the V6 and 15/22/18 for the V8. Standard safety features are antilock disc brakes, traction control, front-seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags. Stability control and brake assist are standard on the upper CX and CXL trims as well as the Super, and are optional on the lower CXL trims.
