Among the 2009 Buick Enclave improvements are a more powerful engine with direct injection and hands-free Bluetooth with steering wheel controls. Offering a choice of front- or all-wheel drive, the Enclave is motivated by a 3.6L V6 engine rated for 288 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque, paired to a standard six-speed automatic transmission. The front-wheel-drive Enclave is estimated by the EPA to get 17 mpg city/24 mpg hwy and 19 mpg in combined driving, while the all-wheel-drive trim reduces those numbers to 16/22/18. Properly equipped, the Enclave can tow up to 4,500 pounds. Buick Enclave safety features include stability control with anti-rollover logic, traction control, front-seat side airbags and three-row side curtain airbags. The Enclave's roomy interior can comfortably accommodate seven or eight occupants and includes standard tri-zone climate control as well as a Smart Slide second-row seat for easy access to the third row.Read more Read less
The Enclave crossover SUV enters its second model year with several important changes that make it more appealing overall. A new V-6 is smoother, more powerful, and more fuel-efficient than the engine it replaces, and a Bluetooth hands-free calling interface is now standard. Two new tech features--XM NavTraffic, OnStar Directions and Connections--make more information available to the driver and enhance safety and convenience. Also, a 110-volt AC inverter is now part of the entertainment option packages, and heated and cooled front seats are now available as stand-alone options. In the Enclave's color palette, Platinum Metallic and Blue-Gold Crystal Metallic are replaced by Quicksilver Metallic and Silver Green Metallic.
Smooth, responsive powertrain; roomy interior; smooth ride; safety
One of the Enclave's strengths is that it's sized closer to mid-size SUVs, yet its interior makes great use of the space, to accommodate up to eight, with space that rivals full-size SUVs like the Suburban or Expedition. Factor in a nice, controlled ride and crisp, carlike handling, an extensive list of standard features, and top-notch safety and the Enclave is an often-overlooked alternative for families and deserves a look.
