A law enforcement version of the Chevrolet Tahoe, the 2008 Tahoe Police comes in two different packages; a 4WD "Special Service Vehicle" (SSV) and a RWD "Police Pursuit Vehicle" (PPV). The SSV trim has a high center of gravity designed for snow, ice, flooding, rough terrain, and ground clearance. Essentially the vehicle can be used for all purposes except for pursuits and high speed responses, due to a higher probability of rolling over. The PPV trim has a lower center of gravity and can be used for all purposes including pursuits and high speed responses, making it one of the only pursuit-rated SUVs. Under the hood the Tahoe Police is powered by a 5.3-liter V8 engine that produces 320 hp and 340 lb-ft of torque. The V8 engine, mated to a 4-speed automatic, features active fuel management and can be run on E85 to improve fuel efficiency. Features include 17-inch wheels, tire pressure monitoring, heavy-duty battery, larger disc brakes equipped with ABS, front/side/curtain airbags, and a 160-amp alternator. The Tahoe Police is backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty.
