A five-speed manual transmission is standard but a continuously variable transmission (CVT) is optional for those looking to rest their left foot.

When the standard 2.4L engine is paired with the optional CVT, the Compass turns in best-in-class EPA numbers. The base two-wheel-drive Compass has a 2.0L engine option that is even more efficient. Standard safety features include four-wheel antilock disc brakes and front and side curtain air bags.
New for 2007, the Compass is a four-door five-passenger cross-over SUV offered in either Sport or Limited trim level with a choice of front or all-wheel-drive configuration. The standard transmission is a five-speed automatic.
