The 2006 model year serves as the new beginning for Volkswagen's compact and mid-sized car range. An all-new 2006 Volkswagen Passat has grown in size and offers even more sophisticated technology such as HID headlights and navigation system. Starting in 2006, Volkswagen rebrands the Golf in the United States and Canada as the Rabbit. Offered as a two-door and four-door hatchback, the 2006 Volkswagen Rabbit is powered by a five-cylinder engine. Launched during the middle of the 2005 model year, the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta sedan enters its first full year in the United States marketplace by offering the high-end GLI trim level. Powered by a 200-horsepower engine, the 2006 Jetta GLI includes HID xenon headlights and a sport suspension system. The Volkswagen New Beetle boasts increased standard engine power from a 150-horsepower and a styling update for 2006 that retains most of its retro-themed presentation. After a brief departure in 2005, the V10 TDI version of the Volkswagen Touareg returns to the United States thanks to new emission-management equipment.
