Promoted as a four-door coupe, the CLS has racier styling and a lower appearance than what is found with a conventional sedan. A CLS500 is powered by a 302-horsepower, 5.0-liter V-8 while a CLS55 AMG features a supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 generating 469 horsepower. For 2006, the Mercedes-Benz M-Class receives its first complete redesign. Stretching 3.7 inches longer in wheelbase to the previous generation model, the 2006 M-Class features a unibody platform replacing body-on-frame construction. The new Mercedes-Benz M-Class is equipped with a standard seven-speed automatic transmission. For Mercedes-Benz buyers looking for a practical option to the M-Class for 2006, the R-Class crossover wagon provides a refined alternative. A six-cylinder R350 and eight-cylinder powered R500 version of the luxury-bred hauler. The 2006 Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG introduces a new AMG Performance Package that resets the electronic speed limiter from 155 miles per hour to 186 miles per hour. The top-end Mercedes-Benz sedan is expanded with the presence of the S350 powered by a six-cylinder engine offered as a new base model. The 2006 Mercedes-Benz C-Class line is trimmed greatly with the subtraction of the sport coupe and wagon body style.
