For 2006, a new image for Lincoln is emerging through the arrival of a new mid-sized sedan. Reviving the Zephyr nameplate, Lincoln's newest four-door, front-wheel drive sedan is derived from the same platform as the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan. The 2006 Lincoln Zephyr's sole powerplant is a 221-horsepower V-6 engine matched with a six-speed automatic transmission. The 2006 Zephyr is Lincoln's first front-wheel drive vehicle since the discontinuation of the Continental after 2002. Eventually expected to be replaced by the Zephyr, the Lincoln LS sedan enters 2006 offered with only a 280-horsepower V-8 engine. With the all-new Lincoln Mark LT, the luxury brand attempts to compete with the Cadillac Escalade EXT for a second time. Four years since the sales flop of the Blackwood, the 2006 Mark LT four-door pickup truck this time features a conventional truck bed and availability of four-wheel drive. The Lincoln Aviator has been cut from the luxury division line-up for 2006 with the impending introduction of a new crossover for 2007.
