Practicality is the motivation for change in the 2006 Audi vehicle line-up. Audi adds the A3 to their United States product line-up for 2006 to attract first-time premium car customers. Available only in the form of a five-door hatchback, the new entry-level 2006 Audi A3 comes with cruise control, 17-inch wheels and traction control as standard equipment. A year after the emergence of a redesigned Audi A6 sedan, the updated mid-level car is now offered as a wagon. The 2006 Audi A6 Avant can be equipped with the 3.2-liter V-6 engine or a 335-horsepower 4.2-liter V-8 power unit. Audi's quattro all-wheel drive is standard on the 2006 A6 Avant. On the A6 sedan for 2006, a more affordable front-wheel drive version is added fitted with a continuously variable transmission on the six-cylinder powered model. A new S-line package on the A6 and a Sport package on the A8 line-up provides an extra dose of flare to the Audi's top sedans. Changes to the A4 and TT are minimal for the 2006 model year. For 2006, Audi drops their rugged allroad wagon in anticipation for the arrival of a new crossover vehicle for 2007.
