The 2005 model year for Volkswagen comes ahead of a major transitional period for the auto company preparing some major new vehicles for 2006. Introduced as a 2005.5 model year vehicle, the all-new Volkswagen 2005 Jetta is considerably longer than the previous generation model and features greater interior space. A 2.5-liter five-cylinder gasoline engine and high-efficiency TDI diesel powerplant is offered with the new Jetta. Sedan and wagon versions of the Volkswagen Jetta based on the pre-2005 body style remains as does the Jetta's traditional platform relative, the Golf. The 2005 Volkswagen Touareg receives a more powerful base V-6 engine and adds new options. V-10 TDI models of the Touareg add a standard height-adjustable air suspension system. The 2005 Volkswagen Passat removes the W8 powerplant from the model line-up.
