Pontiac launches the first phases of a multi-year restructuring of their sporty vehicle division. The 2005 Pontiac G6 is heavily banked on to be an important vehicle in a new modern image for the entire brand heading forward. The four-door sedan serves as a replacement to the Grand Am (the Grand Am coupe continues to be offered for the 2005 model year). Pontiac also boasts a revised version of their family-moving minivan for 2005. Called the Montana SV6 for 2005, the new minivan is styled with a longer hood line projecting a sport utility vehicle-like appearance. The previous generation Pontiac Montana minivan remains available for the 2005 model year as only an extended-length model with a front-wheel drivetrain. After just one year on the market, the Pontiac GTO has received a massive enhancement in the form of a new 6.0-liter LS2 V-8 engine. Generating 400 horsepower, the 2005 GTO features 50 horsepower more output than its 2004 counterpart. Buyers of the 2005 Pontiac GTO also have the no-cost option of a non-scooped hood.
