Continuing to offer the Swedish-inspired 9-3 and 9-5 as premium cars, the 2003 lineup is highlighted by a re-engineered version of a favorite vehicle from the brand. One year later the introduction of the Saab 9-3 sedan based on a new General Motors platform, the Swedish brand's popular two-door convertible has received the updated treatment for 2004. Along with a modest redesign, the 2004 Saab 9-3 Convertible is reported to be three times stiffer than the previous drop-top. Adding standard leather seating and a heated glass rear window, the 2004 9-3 Convertible also boasts improved safety with DynaCage consisting of pop-up rollover bars. A turbocharged V-6 engine is no longer offered on the Saab 9-5 for 2004 leaving only a 2.3-liter four-cylinder powerplant as propulsion generating between 185 and 250 horsepower depending on the trim level.
