Volkswagen becomes the newest entrant in the upscale crossover utility vehicle segment with the Touareg. Based on a vehicle platform co-developed with Porsche and Audi, the Volkswagen Touareg is equipped with standard 4Motion all-wheel drive and offers six-cylinder and eight-cylinder engine power. Replacing the aging Cabrio model, Volkswagen has created an open-top version of the New Beetle. For 2003, Volkswagen offers a 20th Anniversary Edition of the GTI to commemorate the sport compact's two decades in the United States and Canada. The 2003 Passat line adds a new GL model and is now offered with a six-speed manual transmission. The seven-passenger EuroVan family hauler will be cut from Volkswagen's North American line-up following the 2003 model year.
