The longstanding Swift nameplate and the Esteem sedan have been dropped by Suzuki for 2002. Replacing both cars as Suzuki's entry-level contender for 2003 is the Aerio. Offered as a sedan and wagon, the 2003 Suzuki Aerio is propelled a standard 141-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Introducing the XL-7 last year, Suzuki has added several changes to the mid-sized sport utility vehicle for 2002. Performance from the 2.7-liter V-6 engine has been increased to 183 horsepower and the Standard trimmed version of the Suzuki XL-7 is now only a five-passenger model while higher-trimmed models retain standard seven-passenger seating. An addition 10 horsepower is available to the 2.7-liter V-6 engine of the 2002 Suzuki Grand Vitara. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is the only propulsion choice available on the 2002 Suzuki Vitara models following the discontinuation of the vehicle's smaller 1.6-liter powerplant.
