The 2002 Lincoln lineup signifies some considerable changes coming for the future of the luxury brand. One example of bold beginnings is the all-new Lincoln Blackwood that largely translates the execution of the Navigator sport utility to a pickup truck. Differing from most pickup trucks, the bed area is covered by tonneau cover and features a carpeted cargo area. V-8 powered, the Blackwood will only be offered with rear-wheel drive. Boosting horsepower for the V-6 engine to 220, Lincoln's LS sedan is now offered with a standard in-dash CD changer (the Lincoln Town Car also adds the audio system as standard equipment). With the end of the 2002 model year, Lincoln will discontinue their largest front-wheel drive sedan. The 2002 Continental will be the last name Lincoln is using a nameplate that first appeared in 1939 and maintained a continuous place in the luxury vehicle lineup since 1956. Roughly 2,000 Collector's Edition versions of the Lincoln Continental equipped with special chrome wheels and unique interior trim will be built as a fond farewell.
