Following several years where GMC's larger vehicles like the Sierra and 2002 Yukon XL has undergone massive updates, the truck brand focuses on their mid-sized vehicle range for 2002. Replacing the Jimmy as a mid-sized sport utility vehicle, GMC has chosen an upgrade direction by applying the Envoy name at the forefront. The 2002 GMC Envoy is refined with features like four-wheel disc brakes and a Vortec V-6 engine incorporating variable valve timing. In addition to the standard Envoy, a longer Envoy XL was part of the line-up providing the option of greater rear storage or third-row seating. GMC has extended the coverage of the Denali luxury nameplate to their Sierra pickup truck. The Denali name replaces the short-lived C3 branding attached to the GMC Sierra. For 2002, the GMC Sierra also gains an optional technological called Quadrasteer. Quadrasteer is a four-wheel steering system that reduces the turning radius of the truck at low speeds.
