In 2002, Buick makes what is perhaps an evitable rendezvous into a vehicle sector gaining a lot of popularity among premium automobile brands. Buick's first crossover vehicle, the Rendezvous is based on the same platform used to create the Pontiac Aztec. More conservatively designed and longer than its Pontiac counterpart, the 2002 Buick Rendezvous is unique offered as a seven-passenger premium crossover. The Rendezvous is propelled by a six-cylinder engine paired either with a front-wheel or Versatrak all-wheel drivetrain. The arrival of the premium crossover vehicle reflects the majority of changes for the Buick line in 2002. More moderate modifications include steering wheel mounted audio controls on the select 2002 Buick Regal and Park Avenue vehicles. For 2002, the Buick Century is now offered as a five-passenger vehicle with the availability of bucket seats.
