Acura becomes the latest premium car company to embark on the sport utility vehicle segment. All-new for the Acura line-up in 2001 is the seven-passenger MDX crossover vehicle. The Acura MDX is an indirect replacement to the SLX premium sport utility vehicle. Powered by a 240-horsepower V-6 engine, the 2001 MDX comes standard with four-wheel drive. The 2001 model year also consists of a new Acura CL. The two-door personal luxury coupe is equipped with 3.2-liter V-6 powerplants that generate 225 horsepower for the base model and 260 horsepower for the Acura CL Type-S. For 2001, the Acura TL and sedan version of the Integra come with an emergency trunk release system.
