The 2000 Saab 9-3 is a premium compact available as a two-door convertible which seats four, or a three or five-door hatchback, both having seating for five.
A turbocharged mid-size, the premium 2000 Saab 9-5 seats five passengers, is available as a sedan or wagon, and offers greater standard features and interior space than the 9-3.

Revamping their product line in 1999, Saab presents the sharp 9-3 and 9-5 models as turbocharged premium vehicles infused with connections to the Swedish company's aerospace relationship. Saab has expanded the availability of the ‘Viggen' nameplate for 2000 featuring its high-output turbocharged engine. In addition to the Saab 9-3 three-door coupe, the five-door sedan and two-door convertible for the 2000 model year is offered with Viggen performance. Engine power for the 9-3 Viggen models is now set at 230 horsepower. Drawing inspiration from the 9-3 Viggen models, the Saab 9-5 gains an Aero trim level. The Saab 9-5 Aero includes a 230-horsepower engine as well as enhancements to the body and chassis. The 2000 Saab 9-5 adds standard traction control while an OnStar communications link is now an option.
