A mid-size SUV with seating for five, the 2000 Mercury Mountaineer is an upscale version of the popular Ford Explorer. The Mountaineer is available with RWD, 4WD, or AWD. The RWD and 4WD versions come standard with a 4.0L V6 producing 210 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque. The AWD version receives a 5.0L V8 which produces 215 hp, 288 lb-ft of torque, and has a tow rating of nearly 7,000 lbs. All different versions utilize a four-speed automatic transmission.
