Reduced to three models for 1999, the Lincoln luxury car division no longer features a two-door personal luxury coupe. The Lincoln Mark VIII was dropped after 1998 as the luxury coupe lost favor with the modern premium car market. A luxury sport utility vehicle that proved very popular in its 1998 model year introduction, the Lincoln Navigator receives a number of refinements in its sophomore year. A more powerful 300-horsepower 5.4-liter V-8 engine and optional adjustable pedals are items related to the 1999 Navigator. For 1999, the Lincoln Continental and Town Car boast front side impact airbags as standard safety equipment. Also on the 1999 Lincoln Continental, engine performance from the 4.6-liter V-8 engine has been increased to 275 horsepower.
