With up to 16 inches of ground clearance, the 1999 Hummer's large tires are propelled by a 6.5 liter turbo diesel V-8 power plant connected through a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. Mustering out 195 horsepower, the 1999 Hummer dramatically produces 430 pounds-feet of torque at only 1,800 RPM. Considered to have one of the most advanced four-wheel drive systems on the market, the Hummer is given additional handling creditability through two new standard features in 1999. For the first time, an anti-lock braking system is equipped while a new traction control system called Torstar 4 has also been added to the Hummer.
