Subaru's coupe offerings have often provided a manner of seeing the true performance of all-wheel drive. In the mid-1980s, the introduction of the XT gave Subaru their first sports car featuring sleek aerodynamics and a pleasureful driving experience. Replacing the Subaru XT, the SVX followed as a more radical approach to a sport coupe. The Subaru SVX sales ran until 1997 and would be the brand's last dedicated coupe model until 2012. During the late 1990s, a more accessible coupe for Subaru customers was provided in the form of a two-door Impreza. Providing a long-absent coupe to the Subaru United States line-up, the BRZ is powered by a Boxer engine channeled towards a rear-wheel drive system. Developed in cooperation with Toyota, the Subaru BRZ is one of the only current products from the brand to not be offered with all-wheel drive.
