Mercedes-Benz's modern sport utility vehicle (SUV) line-up has been rapidly expanding as models catering to every taste have been churned out by the German automaker. The first official entrance into the United States sport utility market came with the M-Class (later renamed the GLE-Class). Since the start of the 21st century, the Mercedes-Benz line-up has exploded adding the smaller GLK-Class (later replaced by the GLC-Class) and large GL with standard three-row seating. Recently, the German brand endeavored into new territory with the radical GLE Coupe sport crossover. Built as a serious off-roader but converted into a luxury vehicle, the highest-ranking Mercedes-Benz is the G-Class. Though official Mercedes-Benz G-Class sales in the United States started in 2002, the off-road capable four-wheel drive was regularly imported into the country by third-party companies.
