Lincoln's first entry in the sport utility vehicle market was a runaway success. Perfectly predicting a possible boom in the luxury utility products in the mid-1990s, Lincoln outfitted a Ford Expedition with their own branded luxury to create the Navigator. Lincoln's first four-wheel drive equipped production vehicle, the Navigator offered many high-end features such as a power moon roof and additional sound deadening. Lincoln attempted to repeat success of the Navigator by offering the small, Ford Explorer-based premium utility called the Aviator. The Lincoln Aviator lasted only briefly as the focus turned towards premium crossover vehicles. The MKX was the first Lincoln crossover vehicle while a seven-passenger MKT later followed. For 2015, the Lincoln MKC was added as a compact crossover with acclaim. Also in 2015, a revised Lincoln Navigator replaced its V-8 engine with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 powerplant improving fuel mileage for the large sport utility vehicle.
